Carbohydrates: Your Body's Preferred Fuel
Carbohydrates are your body's go-to energy source. When you eat carbs — whether from bread, rice, fruit, or vegetables — your digestive system breaks them down into glucose. That glucose enters the bloodstream and is used by your cells for energy, including your brain, which relies heavily on glucose to function.
Not all carbohydrates behave the same way. Simple carbohydrates (like those in table sugar or white bread) are digested quickly, leading to a rapid rise in blood sugar. Complex carbohydrates — found in whole grains, legumes, and most vegetables — digest more slowly thanks to their fiber content, providing steadier energy over time. Protein: The Body's Builder and Regulator

Dietary Fat: Essential, Not the Enemy
Fat has spent decades being mischaracterized as something to avoid. In reality, dietary fat is essential for survival. It insulates and protects organs, serves as a long-term energy reserve, and — critically — enables your body to absorb fat-soluble vitamins: A, D, E, and K. Without adequate fat in your diet, these vitamins pass through your system largely unused.
Fat also plays a central role in brain health, cell membrane integrity, and hormone production. Certain fatty acids, such as omega-3s found in fatty fish, walnuts, and flaxseed, are considered essential because the body cannot synthesize them on its own.
